Let me thank Almighty God and praise Him for His good foresight in employing me to accomplish His wishes for St. Anne’s Balika Maha Vidyalaya for 19 years.

The school which was initially established with 12 students and three teachers in 1920 has gone through different periods in the course of history and is now a leading girls' school in Sri Lanka with a student population of 2000 and 100 teachers. It is also remarkable that the school, formally established as an English medium school has become a trilingual school educating students who come from different social backgrounds. It is an essentially appreciative situation that the school could facilitate them with equal opportunities and resources in education irrespective of the differences they share being members of multi-religious, multi-racial and multi-cultural social environments.

The school has been blessed to produce gifted daughters, great achievers to the nation and many of the students of St. Anne’s spread over the different parts of the globe doing well due to the holistic formation they received in their Alma Mater.

It also deserves a special mention that St. Anne’s has also been able to produce the best results at the G.C.E. O/L and A/L examinations and in sports, extracurricular and cocurricular activities in Wattala Education Division which led to secure recognition as one of the best girls schools in the Western province.

I must also appreciate the pioneers of the school especially the Good Shepherd sisters who laboured immensely and dedicated to giving life to the school and also the present academic staff committed and determined to mould competent daughters to the nation. I take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the parents whose contribution is extremely a great asset and strength in providing a remarkably conducive learning environment to our daughters. Their untiring efforts and guidance have been the strength in the hundred years of existence. The commitment of the past pupils towards the development of the school is also valued and admired.

I extend my congratulations to the entire school community on this significant occasion of the celebration of a hundred years and wish that St. Anne’s Balika Maha Vidyalaya will continue to serve the nation producing accomplished citizens.
